Overview
- NSW has no state labour hire licensing scheme and no public register to check, so Sydney employers must ask providers directly for evidence of workers compensation coverage, payroll compliance and insurance.
- Ten Sydney labour hire companies are compared for warehouse, logistics, forklift, food processing and manufacturing staffing, with every competitor claim taken from that company’s own website.
- Since 1 November 2024, Fair Work Commission regulated labour hire arrangement orders can require a placed worker to be paid no less than under the host’s own enterprise agreement, and employers with 15 or more employees can be affected.
- Make shortlisted providers answer four questions: what compliance evidence they can show, their committed turnaround for your role types, their written replacement policy, and how the charge-out rate is built.
- For employers who also run Victorian sites, providers working there must hold a Labour Hire Authority licence checkable at labourhireauthority.vic.gov.au; Wise Recruitments holds licence VICLHL10427.
This comparison is written for employers: operations managers and business owners who need warehouse, logistics, forklift, food processing or manufacturing staff in Sydney and want to choose a provider on substance rather than marketing.
Full disclosure before you read on: Wise Recruitments wrote this list, and we have put ourselves on it, in first position. What we have not done is invent reasons to mark anyone else down. Every claim about a competitor below comes from that company’s own website, the criteria are stated openly, and where another provider is a better fit, the profiles should make that obvious. Judge for yourself.
How we compared these companies
Compliance evidence, not compliance claims. Sydney has a regulatory quirk most lists ignore: unlike Victoria, NSW has no state labour hire licensing scheme, so there is no public register to check a Sydney-only provider against. Ask for evidence of workers compensation coverage, payroll compliance and insurance directly. A 2019 national audit of labour hire firms found close to 80 per cent non-compliant with monetary entitlements, record-keeping or payslip provisions, which is why “trust us, we’re compliant” should never close the conversation.
Protected pay rate awareness. Since 1 November 2024, Fair Work Commission regulated labour hire arrangement orders can require a labour hire employee to be paid no less than they would receive under the host’s own enterprise agreement. Employers with 15 or more employees can be affected. A provider that cannot discuss this has not kept up.
Response time. Ask for a specific turnaround commitment for your role types, not “we move quickly”. For most Sydney warehouse and DC operators, fill speed on short notice is the single most-felt difference between providers.
Replacement policy. What happens if a worker does not show or does not fit? This should be a written policy, not something you discover the hard way.
Vertical fit. Screening a forklift operator for a cold store is not the same as filling an office role. Ask what share of the provider’s Sydney placements actually sit in your industry.
Multi-state capability. If you run sites in both NSW and Victoria, remember the compliance picture differs: Victorian sites legally require a licensed provider, checkable at labourhireauthority.vic.gov.au. A dual-state provider can carry both obligations for you.

The 10 companies in detail
1. Wise Recruitments
Wise Recruitments is a specialist blue-collar labour hire company operating across Sydney and Melbourne. We supply workers in five verticals only: warehouse, logistics, forklift, food processing and manufacturing. We do not do construction labour and we do not do IT, and we would rather say so plainly than stretch to sectors we do not screen for.
Founded in 2025, the business runs with a team of around 28 across both cities and 15 plus years of combined recruitment experience. Our operating promise is speed with the paperwork done properly: screened, job-ready workers on your Sydney site within the same week you call, with payroll, superannuation and workers compensation carried by us as the legal employer. For employers who also run Victorian sites, we hold Victorian labour hire licence VICLHL10427, verifiable on the LHA register, so one provider can cover both states’ obligations. Temporary, contract and permanent arrangements are all available. If your need sits in our five verticals, we back ourselves as the strongest fit here; if it does not, one of the nine companies below is your better answer.
2. Labourpower
Labourpower is a national recruitment and labour hire group with locations across Australia including Sydney and Newcastle. Its coverage spans logistics, distribution and supply chain, manufacturing, FMCG and transport, delivered through dedicated divisions: general labour hire, LP Commercial for business support and white-collar roles, LP Trade for industrial sectors and LP Training for inductions and WHS programs. The company describes itself as one of the few providers able to meet all labour hire requirements through its own specialist brands, and was named National Recruitment Company of the Year in 2018.
3. HOBAN Recruitment
HOBAN Recruitment has operated since 1965 and runs 14 offices nationally, including Sydney CBD and Seven Hills. Sector coverage is broad, from government and healthcare through to distribution and logistics and manufacturing, with more than 20,000 placements a year. Relevant to warehouse employers: HOBAN runs a Distribution Development Centre in Western Sydney that trains and assesses candidates in logistics and warehousing skills before placement. A solid choice for employers who value long history and want temp-to-perm pathways across several role families.
4. APG Workforce
APG Workforce is an Australian-owned labour hire and recruitment company operating since 1998, with 16 branches nationally including Ingleburn in Sydney’s south-west plus Newcastle, Tamworth and Griffith in regional NSW. Its industries include food and beverage manufacturing, industrial manufacturing, transport and distribution, warehousing and logistics, and agriculture. APG promotes 24-hour service with consultants available seven days a week, worth testing if overnight or weekend fill speed matters to your operation. A natural shortlist entry for food producers and DCs in the south-west corridor.
5. Programmed
Programmed is one of the largest staffing and maintenance groups in the region, operating across every Australian state and territory and New Zealand. It employs more than 32,000 people a year, works with over 10,000 customers and has 75 years of operations behind it, with coverage including manufacturing and FMCG and transport and logistics. Best suited to large, multi-site employers wanting a national partner; smaller operators should ask how responsive the local branch will be at their volume.
6. Labourforce
Labourforce is a supply chain staffing specialist with more than 25 years of experience, based in Sydney at Wetherill Park with additional branches in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Auckland. Its focus areas are logistics and warehousing, e-commerce and grocery, and process work and manufacturing. Every casual worker undergoes a medical assessment plus drug and alcohol testing before placement, a policy that safety-sensitive sites will appreciate. Its Wetherill Park base puts it in the middle of Western Sydney’s freight and distribution belt.
7. Staff Hire Australia
Staff Hire Australia is a labour hire provider headquartered at Eastern Creek, describing itself as a fast-growing name in workforce solutions across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and regional areas. It specialises in the warehouse, logistics, transport and industrial sectors, with candidate screening, skills assessment and onboarding handled in-house and a stated emphasis on risk management and compliance systems. For employers along the M4 and M7 logistics corridor, its Eastern Creek base is about as local as a provider gets.
8. Australian Staffing Agency (ASA)
Australian Staffing Agency, commonly ASA, was established in 1998 and provides temporary and permanent staffing Australia-wide, including a Sydney presence at Marsden Park. Its sectors include transport and logistics, warehousing, manufacturing and food production, alongside commercial roles. ASA is a member of the Australian Industry Group and the Recruitment Consulting Services Association, and cites more than 25 years in the recruitment industry. A practical option for employers in Sydney’s north-west growth corridor.
9. Sidekicker
Sidekicker is a temporary staffing platform rather than a traditional agency: you post shifts through an app and choose from pre-screened casual workers with visible ratings and reliability scores. Its Sydney warehousing and logistics coverage includes pick packers, forklift drivers, storepersons, devanners and warehouse administration, and it cites a 95 per cent fill rate, more than 750,000 completed shifts and over 2,000 customers. Strong for high-volume, shift-based fill with direct control; employers who want a managed relationship and a single account contact may prefer a conventional provider.
10. Chandler Macleod
Chandler Macleod is one of the region’s largest recruitment agencies, with over 65 years of operations and offices in Sydney, Melbourne, every other mainland capital and regional centres including Newcastle. Coverage spans manufacturing and transport and logistics through to government, healthcare and executive search, extending into volume recruitment and managed service arrangements. It fits best where blue-collar labour hire is one component of a bigger, multi-role workforce requirement rather than the whole brief.
How to choose, and the red flags to watch
Shortlist two or three providers whose core work matches your vertical, then make each answer four questions specifically: what compliance evidence can you show; what is your committed turnaround for my role types; what is your written replacement policy; and how is your charge-out rate built. Award rate, casual loading, superannuation, payroll tax and margin all sit inside the quoted number, and a provider that will not break it down is asking you to compare blind.
Red flags worth acting on:
- “Trust us, we’re compliant” with no records offered, in a state with no licence register to fall back on
- No committed turnaround figure, just “fast”
- No written replacement guarantee
- One quoted rate, no breakdown
- A provider with 15 plus staff hosts on enterprise agreements that has never heard of regulated labour hire arrangement orders

Frequently Asked Questions
What should Sydney businesses look for when comparing labour hire companies?
Three things matter most: licensing and regulatory compliance, industry specialisation, and local candidate pools. A labour hire company with a Sydney-wide database may be less useful than one that actively recruits near your postcode. Ask any provider how many placements they completed in your specific industry and suburb in the past six months — that number can tell you more than a general website claim.
Are labour hire companies in Sydney required to hold a licence?
There is currently no mandatory licensing scheme for labour hire providers in NSW equivalent to Victoria’s VLHA regime. However, the NSW Government has consulted on regulation. Regardless, responsible providers like Wise Recruitments maintain compliance with National Employment Standards, relevant Modern Awards, and state WHS legislation. Always verify insurance, payroll compliance, and workers’ compensation coverage before engaging a provider.
What industries do Sydney labour hire companies most commonly serve?
The largest volume of labour hire placements in Sydney is in warehousing and logistics — particularly in Western Sydney precincts like Eastern Creek, Wetherill Park, and Moorebank. Food manufacturing in South-West Sydney and transport and distribution across the broader Greater Sydney area are also high-volume categories. Wise Recruitments operates specifically across these sectors.
How do I know if a Sydney labour hire company is reliable before I commit?
Ask for at least three references from current clients in your industry. Check Google reviews for patterns — consistent complaints about no-shows or incorrect payroll can be warning signs. Verify that workers’ compensation and public liability insurance are current. Wise Recruitments provides references on request and carries the required insurances as the employer of record for every worker placed.
Can a Sydney labour hire company place workers at short notice for urgent requirements?
Wise Recruitments places workers within the same week for most warehouse, manufacturing, and logistics roles across Greater Sydney. For urgent requirements — same-day or next-day — call 1300 021 673. Speed of placement depends heavily on how local the agency’s candidate pool is to your site. Western Sydney clients benefit from our active recruitment in those postcodes.
